"You haven't lived until you've been to the Grand Canyon" - The Wind and The Wave
Stay
Kaibab Campgrounds in Jacob Lake, AZ.
You have to drive through Jacob Lake anyway, to get to the North Rim of the GC. This camp site was great, there was a temporary fire ban, but they lent us camp grills for our tin foil dinners. The couple running the place this summer is super kind and fun, and let us hang our hammocks up to sleep in. It was also the only place with big group campsites that wasn't already booked for the entire summer, and I booked this back in probably April.
Eat
We did tin foil dinners so everyone could make their own meals how they wanted.
Dinner: 1/2 pound beef per person, cubed potatoes, mixed veggies, BBQ sauce. Wrap in tin foil and cook over fire for about 45 min.
Breakfast: 2 eggs per person, frozen hashbrowns, cheese, green onions. Cook for about 30 min.
Stops
Panguitch Hot Air Balloon Festival
If you are driving through on the right weekend, we stopped in Panguitch, UT for the Balloon Fest out there. We didn't realize it was going on, so it was the perfect surprise.
Kanab, UT
On the way home we stopped in Kanab and climbed to Moqui Cave. It was super cool, and easy to get to. The Moqui Museum was closed on a Sunday, so try to go on a different day.
Tips
Avoid eating at the Jacob Lake Inn Diner, suuuuuper pricy for your most basic breakfast foods. It was nice to have one meal at a diner, and it is probably the only option in Jacob Lake, but I literally payed $12 total for a box of cereal and a glass of grapefruit juice.
