I have made the drive from Utah to California many many times. But the first time I made it alone I was determined to keep myself sane by sight seeing along the way. I had been meaning to make it out to the Seven Magic Mountains (filed under "The Basic" because everyone and their dog likes to go here, but like most Basic things, is still very very cool,) an art installation right outside of Las Vegas Nevada. This won't last forever, and will eventually be taken down -- so I would recommend making a quick stop on your next desert road trip. As a fan of large, random, very colorful art installations in the middle of nowhere -- this made me happy.
