Griffith Observatory

This is as classy as it gets, and happens to be my favorite spot in LA. Featured in the 50's in a James Dean film Rebel Without a Cause and most recently in La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. I promise your experience here will be even better if you watch La La Land before going.
I recommend going on a weekday right when the museum opens at noon, if you want the observation deck all to yourself. But is worth the crowds to go to a Star Party open to the public one Saturday a month. And my personal favorite time of day to visit is right before sunset -- the view you have of LA is unbeatable, and the best sunsets of my life were seen here at the observatory over the LA skyline.
